Bobby
T.runs away with Championship Night main event!! Krzykowski crowned Late Model champ!
By Amy Kolo
September 4, 1998; Plover, WI: - Chris Wimmer screamed out a new late model track record! With Wimmer having fast time he opted to take the Hot n Now Ultimate Challenge, which was up to $2,100.00. At the start of the race Bobby T took the lead immediately. Larry Lepak was directly behind him with Brian Back behind Lepak. The stayed pretty much the same until lap 11. Bobby T started pulling away from the rest of the pack, as Jason Weinkauf maneuvered his way around Back. The rest of the fast runners were stuck in the back behind slower cars, allowing Bobby T to gain even more car lengths ahead of the rest of the pack.

Gary Back definitely had speed tonight. He soon made his way around Weinkauf. Back was bound and determined to catch Bobby T. By lap 23 Back made his way around Lepak. Bobby T had just enough car lengths ahead of him so Back would never be able to catch him. Bobby T took the checkered with Back in second, and Lepak in third. Wimmer ended up seventh.

Cale Laessig pulled out ahead in the super stock feature, with Jim Cormack right behind him. Merle Weinfurter made his way around Cormack on lap 10. Randy Storlie who has been very fast lately was making his way up the pack to start working on the leaders.
By lap 11 Storlie found himself in the third position fighting for the second. Storlie with in the next two laps made it around Weinfurter, then Laessig for the lead. On lap 15, Alan Sankey drove his truck up the bank on the backstretch just missing all the signs. Sankey held on to her and made his way back onto the track all in one piece. Sankey definitely deserved the Culvers Hot Dog of the Night Award, for hanging on to it.

Jason Kirsling had a fine evening. He set third quick time, won the dash and later came back and finished third in the feature race to score the most points during the Coca-Cola End of Season championships. Darrel Bassuener, the owner of Golden Sands Speedway offers his congratulations not only on the fine performances this evening but Krisling also won the Super Stock title. |
Fast runner Jason Kirsling was quickly moving his way up to the front. By lap 20, Kirsling had already made it to the second position and started working on Storlie for the lead. With five laps to go it looked like a dash. Storlie was able to hold off Kirsling for the checkered. Kirsling finished second with Weinfurter in third.
The pure stock feature looked like a crash fest and almost a dirt race. Everyone was racing so hard for the season championship. By lap 8, Shawn Stelzer made his way up to the front of the pack, with Jim Stratton right on his heals. Marv Flick was in the lead. A spin came out on lap 10, and as the guys lined back up to race Stelzer slammed into Flick. Since there was no lap completed, Stelzer and Flick both got their spots back.

By lap 12, Stelzer lost it in the sand sending dust storms everywhere. The flag stayed green as Stelzer ended up in the back of the pack. Through the dust storm the leaders Flick and Stratton tangled bringing out a caution and sending both of them to the back of the pack. With two laps to go Jeff Stroik was able to take the checkered, with Curt Blenker in second, and Reed Rossier in third.
