Jeff Weinfurter (#3) became the eighth different Super Late Model feature winner this season on the high banks of Golden Sands Speedway. Jeff joins his brother Greg on this year's winners listing, as Greg scored a feature win earlier this year. |
Burton Brown ended up with the fast time for the night, and opted to take the Hot n Now Ultimate Challenge. The challenge pot was only at $100, since Jeremy Lepak had won the Challenge last week.
| Burton Brown (#07) who chose to run Super Late Models this year at Golden Sands is still enjoying the decision. This evening he set fast time. Brown has already scored a feature win this year. | ![]() |
Jeff Weinfurter started out in an early lead with Greg Weinfurter right behind him. Steve Gress was also moving up fast to work on the leaders. Kirby Kurth also started moving up. Brown started making his way past the slower cars in the back of the pack. By lap 14, Kurth had made his way around Greg Weinfurter for the second position. Gress started losing positions and slipped to the middle of the pack.
This gave Jeremy Lepak and Mark Eswein the opportunity to advance in positions. Lepak and Eswein started battling it out for the fourth position. Lepak then got around Greg Weinfurter for the third position. Eswein then took the fourth position away from Weinfurter. By lap 25, lapped traffic came into play. Jeff Weinfurter held on to his lead and took the checkered flag. Kurth finished second with Lepak in third. Brown finished tenth.

Racin' Jason Szymkowiak (#17) his having a stellar season as Golden Sands. Szymkowiak set a new track record this evening for the CWSSA Super Stocks turning in a lap of 13.260 Seconds on the third-mile high banked asphalt oval. |
Racin Jason Szymkowiak now holds the new super stock track record at a 13.260! Szymkowiak opted to take the Letter Perfect Ultimate Challenge which was up to $400.00. It was dejavu. Szymkowiak was the first super stock to win the Letter Perfect Challenge back in May. At that time the pot was up to $400.00. Hardees, one of Szymkowiaks sponsors, told Jason, that if he could win the Letter Perfect Challenge this time, he would also give Jason an additional $400.00. That was a total of $800.00, just to win the race. Fans were ready for an exciting, edge-of-your- seat-race!
| Tough to beat! Judd Brandl (#27) has been nearly unstoppable the past two weeks in CWSSA Super Stock action. Brandl has won 2 features in a row here at Golden Sands and he has also won two in a row at nearby Marshfield Speedway. | ![]() |
Alan Sankey started out in the lead. Scott Hamel, experiencing car problems, brought out the caution flag on the very first lap. As the second lap restarted Carl Saylor and Cale Laessig tangled, sending Saylor into the pits with a banged up racer. Szymkowiak also went into the pits. He tried to avoid the spinning cars, but bumped into Saylor as he was flying sideways across the track. Szymkowiak and Laessig started in the back as Sankey held onto his lead with restart of the next green flag.
Jim Cormack was behind him ready to take the lead away. Hard runners, Mike Doughty and Judd Brandl started working on the leaders. By lap 8, Doughty was able to take the lead from Sankey. Sankey started having car problems ad slipped to the back of the pack. This allowed Brandl to slide into the second position. By lap 10, Szymkowiak was already up into the sixth position. Brandl and Doughty fought for the lead. By lap 13, Brandl was able to take the lead. Szymkowiak was moving up quickly.

A short end to the evening! Carl Saylor (#8) got involved in an early accident in the CWSSA Super Stock feature event which knocked him from competition and ended his evening. |
By the 17th lap, Szymkowiak was already in second place, working on Brandl for the lead. Doughty and Keith Bohmsach held onto the third and fourth positions, waiting for Brandl and Szymkowiak to spin from racing hard against each other.
With three short laps to go, Szymkowiak was able to get Brandl loose
coming out of turn 2, and take the lead. Szymkowiak
kept the lead on the white flag lap. But as
both drivers were coming into turn three for the checkered flag, Brandl nudged Szymkowiak
getting him loose and stealing the win by about a foot.
It was a spectacular race. Hardees
still gave Szymkowiak the $400.00 for doing such a great job. Congratulations to all drivers for putting on such
a great race. Szymkowiak finished second with
Doughty in third.
The Pure Stock feature showed some great excitement also. Roland Kuhn started out with the early lead, but fast runner Marv Flick quickly overtook Kuhn for the lead. Flick and Mike Brooks are in a highly contested battle for the championship. By lap 9, Brooks stole the second position away from Kuhn and started working on taking the lead way from Flick. Some of the new drivers battled each other in the middle of the pack.
| Sometimes things go your way.. as seen here as Marv Flick (#9) scored yet another feature win this season in the Pure Stock division. | ![]() |

Sometimes they don't....Kevin Fisher (#69) has a scary wreck as he rolled his Pure Stock two and a half times during the semi-feature event. Fisher was okay but the car was severely damages. |
All practicing on become better and better drivers to start taking
the top positions away from some of the more experienced drivers. Matt Pyburn, Scott Christianson, Mike Somers, Matt
Raykowski, and last year cruiser driver Mark Flink raced hard against each other, all
learning some new moves and techniques. Flick
ended up with the win. Brooks finished second
and Kuhn in third.
Timed event races were held after the nights events. Paul Hojnacki took first with Ron Witt in second
and Chris Worzella in third.
Friday July 16th, will be the 3rd Annual Taco Johns Co-sponsored Night at the Races, with Pats Carstar VIP Party. Dont miss the fun.
Racing continues on Friday evenings at Central Wisconsin's Power Playground, Golden Sands Speedway. Our racetrack is a high-banked 1/3 mile asphalt oval featuring Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks and Pure Stocks.
