Mark Eswein (#71) won the late model feature race this evening and gathers in the winners circle with the family of the late Brian Lambie and promoter Craig Basseuner. The events were held in memory of the late racer who passed away last season after competing in a race program here at Golden Sands Speedway. |
Monte Gress turned fast time, but opted not to take the Hot n Now Ultimate Challenge which was up to $600.00. He stated that he felt like being conservative for the night.
The Super Late Models ran a 40 lap feature event in remembrance of Brian Lambie. Burton Brown took the early lead in the feature event, with Scott Beyer right on his heals. Beyer has been getting hotter and faster as the season goes on. With the roll of the dice, fast runner, Jeremy Lepak started in the middle of the pack and quickly moved up to start working on the leaders. A spin between Rod Wheeler and Jeff Weinfurter brought out a caution on lap eleven.
At the restart, Lepak got the jump on Beyer and stole the second position away from him. Another fast runner, Mark Eswein was quickly making his way through the pack to start fighting for the top positions. By lap 24, Eswein had made it to the fourth position, until a caution came out for Eric Getzloff as he lost it coming out of turn two. At the restart Burton held onto his lead, but Eswein was able to jump ahead two positions for second place. Eswein and Burton started racing and rubbing each other hard.
Eswein was finally able to get around Burton for the lead. Burton got loose and started loosing positions backward. Burton wasnt able to get control of his car and tangled with Jeff Weinfurter, sending both drivers to the back of the pack. With all the action happening in the back of the pack, Todd Stapleman had moved up into the second position and was working hard on Eswein. By the thirty-sixth lap, Kirby Kurth had also moved up and started working on the leaders. As the checkered flag fell, Eswein maintained his lead with Stapleman in second and Kurth in third.
Randy Storlie turned fast time in the super stock division and opted to take the Letter Perfect Challenge, which was up to $600.00
| Back in the winners circle! Jason Kirsling (#99) the defending CWSSA Super Stock champion here at Golden Sands has not been able to run weekly due to his work schedule, but when he's here he is a force to be reckoned with. Tonight he won the feature race. | ![]() |
Jason Kirsling started out with the lead in the super stock feature, with Alan Sankey directly behind him. Shawn Stelzer quickly over took Sankey by the second lap and raced hard to catch up to Kirsling for the lead. Jim Cormack and Cale Laessig were also moving up to work on the leaders. Storlie was stuck in the back of the pack trying to get around the slower cars. The top four kept holding their positions.
By the sixteenth lap, lapped traffic became an issue. Everyone shuffled for positions. Kirsling held onto his lead with Stelzer still in second. Stelzer kept trying to pass, but was not able to get around Kirsling for the lead. Judd Brandl also started moving up from the back of the pack, but there was just not enough laps to catch up to the leaders. Kirsling finished in first, with Stelzer in second and Cormack in third. Storlie finished seventh.

He won the battle but... Marv Flick (#9) won the evenings Pure Stock feature race, but Mike Brooks edged ahead in points based upon a solid qualifying effort and strong runs in the preliminaries! Both Flick and Brooks are gunning for their first title. |
Marv Flick had car problems in qualifing and took the pole position during the pure stock feature. He took the lead right away and started hammering it. Dale Robinson was right behind him trying to catch him. Anney Turzinski was also putting the pedal to the metal trying to catch Flick. Mike Brooks, second fast, made it through the back of the pack and started working on Turzinski.
Fast timer, Brad Scholze really found the speed and made it around all the slower cars up to the front of the pack to join in on the leaders. Robinson lost a few positions back as Turzinski and Scholze made their passes. Flick finished first with Turzinski in second and Scholze in third. The pure stocks and Golden Sands Speedway would like to give a big thanks to Rons Auto Service for the additional $100.00 that the gave to the winner of the pure stock feature.
