Jeff Weinfurter (#3) bested
his brother Greg for the lead in Super Late Model action. Jeff was then able to fend
off challenges from Jason Weinkauf and Doug Drost to earn his first feature victory of the
season at Golden Sands Speedway. |
Chris Wimmer displayed his racing ability, and his pit crews
ability to set up a car, by taking fast time once again. Wimmer also opted to take the Hot
n Now Ultimate Challenge which was up to $300.00.
Both Weinfurter Brothers started right by each other, and started battling each other
right away. Greg Weinfurter took the early lead in the Super Late Model feature. Mike
Budleski was right behind Greg, but Jeff looking to better his brother, zoomed pass
Budleski for the second position.
| The Late Models were racing
hard this evening. Here in the first heat Eric Getzloff (#31), Charlie Schwock (#29)
and Ted Griffith (#40) race three wide on the high banked turns. |
 |
The Weinfurter brothers then proceeded to bang into each other one
trying to get around the other. By the ninth lap, Aaron Roehl went in the pits with car
trouble, and Jeff finally stole the lead away from his brother. As Jeff moved into the
first position, Doug Drost followed right behind him and sent Greg into the third
position. Greg started to loose positions as fast runners, Jason Weinkauf and Kirby Kurth
advanced positions.
Fast timer, Chris Wimmer, was making his way up to the front from the back
of the pack, but then pulled into the pits with car problems. Drost started running
Weinfurter hard, trying to take the lead away. Weinfurter held on, fending off Drost. With
just a few short laps to go, Weinfurter was able to maintain his lead and take the win.
Weinkauf maneuvered his way around Drost for the second position. Drost finished in third.

Jason Kirsling (#99) fought
off the challenges of Keith Bohmsach during the second half of the Super Stock main event
to claim the victory this evening. |
Mike Doughty spun fast time for the third time this season. He also
opted to take the Letter Perfect Challenge, which was up to $250.00.
Jason Kirsling having troubles in timing took the early lead in the Super Stock feature.
The caution flag came out right away on the second lap as Wes Coon and Alan Sankey got
into each other. At the restart, Kirsling maintained his lead but the other fast runners,
started working their way up to the top. By the sixth lap, another caution came out
between Jim Cormack and Mike Doughty. Doughty went into the pits with two cut tires.
| The Super Stocks always put
on a super show. Here Don Cline (#17), Paul Meronk (#15) and Wes Coon (#51) trade a
little paint while doing battle for position. |
 |
At the restart, Kirsling once again maintained his lead with Keith
Bohmsach, Brian Stroik and Merle Weinfurter in hot pursuit. Randy Storlie, who has won
quite a few races this year, was making his way to the front from the back of the pack.
Storlies racecar seems to be one of the fastest for this season.
He has won the Letter Perfect Challenge and seems to always make it the
front of the pack. Storlie passed Weinfurter and Stroik and started working on Bohmsach.
Kirsling seeing Storlie in his mirrors put the pedal to the metal and started gaining
positions on the rest of the pack. With three laps to go lapped traffic came into play.
The lapped traffic looked like it was going to change the top running order at first, but
everyone maintained their positions. Kirsling took the win with Bohmsach in second and
Storlie in third.
Brad Scholze took fast time in the Pure Stock division as he screamed out an awesome time
of 14.865! Scholze also opted to take the CarQuest Challenge, which was up to $300.00.
 |
Michael Somers (#15) was
back in the groove this evening and in spite of a few scrapes while working traffic his
car was as sharp as ever. |
Chris Brooks took the early lead with Roland Kuhn right behind him.
Fast runner, Duane Robinson flew to the top of the pack stealing second away from Kuhn. By
the ninth lap, lapped traffic already started coming into play. A caution came out in the
tenth lap between Neal Soyka and Marv Flick. At the restart, Robinson took the lead, but
Mike Somers quickly took it away from him.
| Jason Lewandowski (#11) got
a closeup loom at the billboards on the backstretch during the Pure Stock feature event
after he climbed the sandpile. Lewandowski was unhurt in the incident but his racing
was done for the evening. |
 |
Another caution came out on the thirteenth lap, between Matt Pyburn
and Jason Lewandowski. Somers kept his lead at the restart, but Curt Blenker was able to
move up into the second position. As the checkered flag fell, Somers took the win, but
Robinson was able to pass Blenker for second. Blenker came in third.
 |
Nick L'Huiller topped the
spectator racing this evening driving a high performance Pontiac Firebird. |
Spectator races held some spectacular action. Congratulations to the
top drivers, first place Nick LHuiller, 2nd place-Paul Hojnacki, and 3rd place-Pat
Steele.
 |
 |
| With a huge
field of cars on hand, the 2-man Cruisers ran two feature races. In the left
photo the team of Jack Szymkowiak and Rick Cisewski topped the first main event, while Jason Blenker and John Kampert Sr took the finale. |
Golden Sands Speedway also hosted Cruiser action! With
twenty-six cruiser cars entering the field, two races were held. The first race featured a
near roll over! All drivers were fine, thanks to all safety equipment on their cars, and
the speediness of the Golden Sands Safety Crew.
 |
Sometimes the Cruiser
drivers get a little more than they bargained for. Here the team of Christensen
& Nigh (on side ) put their car on it's side after tangling with another car. |
The winners of the first Cruiser heat were: 1st place-Jack
Szymkowiak and Rick Cisewski. 2nd place-Dave Kinney and Gary Kinney. 3rd place-Don Yeske
and Aaron Yeske. The second race had Jason Blenker and John Kampert Sr in first. 2nd
place-Dean Kramer and Eugene Kramer. 3rd place-Darin Subert and Jim Murkowski.
