Lewis steals the show in Bus Race!
Somers comes from back of pack twice to win challenge pot!

June 9, 2000; Plover, WI - A very warm night and the thrill of the bus races brought a ton of fans to Central Wisconsin’s Power Playground. Congratulations to Wyatt Clark the Short Trax Jr. Fan of the Week, and to Dylan Flick the Wal-Mart Gift Certificate winner.

Fans got plenty of action in the School Bus race.  Shawn Lewis (left photo) managed to tip over his bus during the event.  Lewis was unhurt and much to the delight of the crowd was able to rejoin the race after his bus was tipped back on it's wheels.   In the right photo Rob Manke celebrated the victory.

A total of ten buses took the field for one incredible, action packed race. Shawn Lewis, who first tipped his bus over last year during the Eve of Devastation, tipped over once again coming out of turn four with the help of the other Scaffidi Bus driver, Rob Manke. Darrel Bassuener, Track Owner, hopped in his end loader tipped the bus back over, Lewis jumped back in and fired it up to continue racing. Who would of ever thought that bus would have started again. Congratulations to Rob Manke for taking the win.

Super Late Model driver, Chris Wimmer spun fast time once again, and opted to take the Hot n’ Now Challenge. The Challenge was now up to $1,100.00.

Jeff Weinfurter (#3) scored a hard fought feature victory in Super Late Model action.  Weinfurter powered into the lead on lap 8 of the 30 lap contest and fended off his rivals for the win.

Scott Beyer started out with the lead during the Super Late Model feature, with Monte Gress and Greg Weinfurter right behind him. Monte took the lead by the eighth lap, as Beyer spun. This allowed Jeff Weinfurter to move up and take the second position away from his brother Greg. Greg and Jeff changed positions a couple of times, but Greg started having car problems and started losing positions. As Greg started to lose positions, Jeff maneuvered his way around Gress for the lead. Kirby Kurth and Mike Budleski started moving up to work on the leaders.

Staying out front in the Super Late Model main event proved to be a challenge as Jeff Weinfurter fends off Kirby Kurth (#85) and Burton Brown (#07) in the closing laps of the race.

The fast timer, Chris Wimmer was boxed in at the rear of the field, trying desperately to get out and around the slower cars. Weinfurter started racing hard to hold off Kurth. Burton Brown made his way around Budleski for the third position. On the 23rd lap a caution came out with a spin between Wimmer, Eswein and Pettis. At the restart, Weinfurter held on to his lead with Kurth right behind him. MG Gajewski was coming up on Brown looking to steal his position away. As the checkered fell, Weinfurter took the win with Kurth in second. Gajewski was able to make it around Brown for the third position.

Randy Storlie (#53) is having a great season on the high-banked third mile oval here at Golden Sands Speedway.   Storlie used tonight's feature win to pad his point lead as he seeks his first Super Stock title.

In the Super Stocks, fast runner, Jason Kirsling, took the fast time once again, and opted to take the Letter Perfect Challenge, which was up to $300.00. Rookie driver, Mike Brooks, took the early but was quickly taken over by Alan Sankey. As Brooks started to drop back, Shawn Stelzer and Randy Storlie moved up. Jason Kirsling was already up to the fourth position by the fifth lap! What a tremendous move! Storlie worked on getting by Sankey. By the eighth lap, Sankey and Kirsling both made their way around Sankey. Storlie hammered down, creating a couple of car lengths between him and Kirsling. Kirsling concentrated hard. He wanted that challenge money and the win.

Some great weather greeted fans this evening and there was a full house on hand to witness the action.  Here the Super Stock dash is about to get underway.

By lap 19, lapped traffic came into play. It didn’t help Kirsling at all as Storlie just widened his lead. Kirsling needed a caution to have a chance at passing Storlie for the lead. Kirsling got just what he needed with just three short laps to go, Saylor and Weinfurter tangled in the rear of the field sending out a caution. At the restart, Storlie kept his lead and was able to hold off Kirsling for the lead. Kirsling finished second with Jim Cormack in third.

Mike Somers, the kid from a long history of family racing, spun the fast time again. Mike won the CarQuest Challenge money last week, leaving the pot at only $50.00 for this week, but he still opted to take the Challenge, hoping to be the first racer to win a Challenge pot twice in a row.

Neal Soyka took the lead in the pure stock feature with Chris Brooks and John Matthews behind him. Somers started moving up, passing the slower cars on the outside, when he spun with Marv Flick, and Jason Osowski. As all three cars went to the rear of the field, Soyka held his lead, but Brad Scholze moved up into the second position. Scholze soon took the lead away from Soyka, sending him to the second position.

Meanwhile Somers and Flick were moving up the pack once again to work on the leaders. With just four laps to go Somers, passed Scholze for the lead. Scholze motored hard to regain his lead, but there was just not enough laps to get it. Somers took the win. The first racer to win the challenge pot twice in a row. Scholze finished second with Soyka in third.

A limited amount of legends joined the field for few races. Congratulations to Jeff Way, the legend feature winner.
