Allen Check
Takes Late Model Main in the Fourth of July Independence Race.

Plover, WI - On one of
the first hot summer nights, the crowd packed into the Power Playground for exciting
racing action. For an extra attraction, Willy Higgins attempted to roll over his car. He
jumped off the ramp and almost tipped it over, as he careened the corner for another try
his suspension snapped unexpectedly to the disappointment of crowd.

Allen Check (#20) captured his first Super Late
Model feature win of the 2004 season here at Golden Sands Speedway.
Joe Krzykowski (#77) and Allen Check (#20) traded the lead several times before
Check motored away for the victory in the Super Late Model feature.
Wisconsin's only female Super Late Model driver, Rene Scheinoha (#5) scored two
wins this evening taking her heat and the consolation race.
Mark Eswein (#71) was honored in race race
activities for capturing the overall Mid-Season championship last week in Super Late Model
competition.
Wally Kallman (#77) captured his first career Super Stock feature win at Golden
Sands Speedway.
A late race caution put Scott Hamel (#78) on the rear bumper of Wally Kallman (#77)
during the Super Stock feature. Kallman withstood the challenge and went on to victory.
Tim Plowman (#80) was the overall Mid-Season championship winner last week,
receiving his accolades during opening ceremonies during this week's program.
Harvey Vera (#92) was the winner tonight in Pure Stock feature action.
Troy Engman (#99) was the overall Mid-Season point winner in Pure Stock action. He
was honored for those accomplishments during this weeks program.
The team of Dean and Dean topped the first 2-Man Cruiser race.
While Szymkowiak and Pionek (#17) concluded the evening with a win in the 2-Man
Cruiser finale. |
But they didn’t stay disappointed for long, for then it was the Trailer
Races! Boats, popup campers, manure spreaders, lawnmowers, and snowmobiles crashed into
each other for edge of your seat excitement. The car that pulled the boat had to be the
most creative, or had the most time on his hands, for he dressed up and painted his car to
resemble a fish. As the camper blew apart, other cars either died or lost their trailers,
and it came down to the camper and the spreader. As they restarted, the camper flipped the
spreader like a turtle on it’s back. Congratulations to Steve Foshey winner of the
trailer races.
The Super Late Model division had Chris Weinkauf take fast time. Joe Krzykowski took
the early lead in the Late Model A with Allen Check right behind him. Brian Back and Monte
Gress followed. Back started losing positions, giving the path to Benjamin Brinkman. A
caution came out on lap 11, as Isaak Owen lost control of his racer coming out of turn
four. Krzykowski maintained the lead, with Check hot on his heals. After the next four
laps Check maneuvered around Krzykowski, gaining the lead. Brinkman overtook Gress for the
third position. Everyone raced hard trying to steal positions. Brinkman and Gress fell
back giving way to Chris Weinkauf and Jeff Weinfurter. Check maintained his lead taking
the win with Krzykowski in second and Weinkauf in third.
Super Stocks lined up by points for the night, with Shawn Stelzer rolling the dice for the
feature positions. Brian Schmutzer the lead right away, fending off Dan Gollen and Wally
Kalman. Gollen fell back, as Kalman made his way past him. Kalman and Schmutzer fought
each other neck and neck for a few laps, as Kalman reigned the victor and took the lead.
Then the action started to really happen. Cale Laessig, Matt Raykowski and Scott Hamel,
started working on taking the leads away.
As everyone got jumbled up, Kalman sped and was a half a lap ahead of the rest of the
field. Schmutzer started having some difficulties and started losing positions, giving way
to Hamel, Tim Plowman, and Dave Neitzke. Kalman was still way ahead, but the faster cars
were moving in on him. With four laps to go a caution came out on the track. Kalman now
had Hamel and Plowman to deal with. Hamel tried hard to get around Kalman, both of them
getting a little loose out of the corners, but Kalman was able to fend off the faster cars
and take the feature win. Hamel took second with Plowman in third.
The Pure Stock feature looked like a Cruiser race, which isn’t that surprising since
four out of the nine cars used to be Cruiser cars that moved up in divisions. Cars went
three and four wide at times giving the crowd some very exciting racing action! Shane
Floistad started in the lead with Raymond Kramer and Michael Gwidt behind him. By lap five
Gwidt took the lead, but got a little squirrelly giving the position up to Harvey Vera,
who came from the back of the pack. Vera then held on tightly to the lead for the rest of
the race taking the win. Scott Strigel who started out getting banged around in the back
of the pack, got away from everyone and made his way to the front taking the second
finishing position. Brad Guralski took third.
Cruiser racing action was exciting as it always is. The first race had #71 Dean and Dean
take the win with #10 Kampert and Kampert in second and #22 Wierzba and Wierzba in third.
The second race had #17 Szymkowiak and Pionek in first, #29 Wisinski and Szymkowiak in
second, and #7 Pingle and Williams in third (even after they went flying off the track in
turn one).
Next Friday hosts Charter Communications night, with Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure
Stocks, 4-Cylinders and Spectator races. Time trials begin at 6:30 with racing action
