Krzykowski Captures Super Late Headliner!
Plowman Powers to Victory In Super Stock Action!

nearly ideal weather conditions over 100 cars were in attendance in the pit area as Golden
Sands Speedway presented another fast paced racing program on the high-banked third mile
paved oval. Heading the list of winners this evening was "smokin' Joe
Krzykowski, who charged passed Super Late Model rookie of the year contender Keith
Bohmsach in the closing laps of the main event to earn his first feature victory since the
1998 season. Krzykowski has had several close runner-up finishes in recent years
including last week where he finished runner-up to Jeff Weinfurter, but until this evening
a victory had eluded him for 5 seasons.

Super Late Model feature win at Golden Sands since the 1998 season.

Mark Mackesy (#12) turned in a strong third place showing. He's shown
slipping past Jeremy Lepak (#40) while Joe Krzykwoski (#77) gives chase.
Burton Brown (#07) and Keith Bohmsach (#24x) battled for the early lead in the
Super Late Model feature race.
Brian Back (#61) debuted a new car this evening and promptly took it to victory
lane winning the Super Late Model semi-feature.
John Totzke Jr. (#8) was a double winner, taking both his heat race and the
consolation event in Super Late Model action.
Chris Weinkauf (#75) set the pace in the Super Late Model division this evening
during qualifying.
Tim Plowman (#80) earned his first Super Stock feature win of the 2004 season.
Brad Scholze (#87) set the early pace out running David Pagels (#409) but.....
In the closing laps he would turn the lead over to Tim Plowman (#80) and then drop
from the contest with mechanical ills.
Current point leader Shawn Stelzer (#40) set fast time honors for the evening.
Eric Nelson (#94) made a stop in victory lane after capturing the Pure Stock
feature.

In Super Stock action, it was Tim Plowman capturing his first feature victory of
the 2004 season after several runner-up finishes this year. The Pure Stocks saw
defending champion Eric Nelson return to victory lane for the second time this year, while
the 4 cylinders treated fans to an exciting race long duel which was Kevin Teske edge out
Mike Oehmichen by a matter of inches for the win.
Former track champion Burton Brown and Keith Bohmsach brought the field to the green
flag for the 40 lap Super Late Model main event. A former title winner in the Super
Stock division, Bohmsach worked the outside line to secure the initial lead of the
contest, while Brown and Jeremy Lepak engaged in a tussle for second. Lepak would rumble
into the runner-up spot on the fifth lap and set out after Bohmsach.
The lead pair separated themselves a bit from the pack behind them as the laps quickly
passed. By lap 10 third position settled in with Mark Mackesy holding the spot with
Krzykowski in tow. Bohmsach's rapid pace had allowed him to pull away building a ten
car length lead, while Lepak found himself falling into the clutches of Mackesy.
Lepak slid up the track a bit on Lap 14, allowing both Mackesy and Krzykowski to slip
by for second and third respectively. Even with a new challenger in second, Bohmsach
held a comfortable lead as the race past the halfway point, showing himself, Mackesy,
Krzykowski, Lepak and Jason Weinkauf in the top five positions.
Krzykowski began to show some speed working by Mackesy for the second spot.
Bohmsach however still held a comfortable lead. That lead however, was erased with
15 laps to go in the contest as the lone caution of the event flew when Jason Kirsling
looped his ride in turn one.
One the restart Bohmsach has Krzykowski all over his rear bumper, while Mackesy and
Weinkauf contested the third spot. As the race drew closer to it's conclusion Krzykowski
opted for the outside line which allowed him to draw alongside Bohmsach. The pair
would run wheel to wheel for several laps before Krzykowski would inch ahead with five
laps to go.
Krzykowski would pace the final laps to the checkered to secure the win. Bohmsach
in his strongest showing as a rookie contender in the class would settle for a close
second after an impressive performance. Mackesy would edge out Jason Weinkauf for
third. Jeff Weinfurter, last weeks feature winner claimed fifth after passing Chris
Weinkauf for the spot on the final lap.
Brad Scholze paced the opening rounds of the Super Stock contest with Dan Gollen and
Matt Pyburn giving chase. Scholze seemed to be able to command the pace of the
contest staying out front by a couple car lengths while positions swapped behind him.
The complexion of the race changed on lap ten when Pyburn and Gollen made contact
sending Gollen spinning in turn two, Gollen was then clipped by Brian Schmutzer and a
yellow flag resulted due to the tangle. Pyburn was placed at the tail of the field
while Gollen and Schmutzer were forced to call it a night.
This left Scholze still in control of the race, with 15 laps to go. Plowman was
up to sixth place at this point as he rapidly worked past cars using both the high and low
grooves. Scholze began to stretch his lead over David Pagels, while Plowman continued to
pass cars. Cale Laessig, the current Super Stock point leader at Marshfield Speedway
was making his first appearance of the season, and was turning in an impressive
performances as he slipped by Pagels for second with ten laps to go in the contest.
Plowman now crept into the picture working into third moments later.
The lead trio of Scholze, Laessig and Plowman were lines up nose to tail when Plowman
saw an opportunity to pass both drivers for the lead with seven laps to go. In a
quick maneuver Plowman charged to the top spot and he would pull away from the field over
the final laps to take the victory. Scholze's fine night came to an end as his car
began smoking heavily forcing him to the pits with only three laps to go. This left
Laessig to claim the runner-up position by a comfortable margin. A late race charge would
net current point leader Shawn Stelzer the third positions, while Tim Hintz and David
Pagels would complete the top five finishers.
The four cylinder feature saw several different leaders early. Aaron Philipps
paced a lap in the contest early before Randy Polansky took over the top spot. Mike
Oehmichen became the third leader of the contest on lap four. With 8 laps to go
Kevin Teske would nose ahead of Oehmichen for the top spot, becoming the fourth driver to
pace the contest.
The final eight laps would be hotly contested, as Oehmichen would engage in a wheel to
wheel battle with Teske for the lead which would continue all the way to the checkered.
As the checkered flag fell it was Teske ahead by the slimmest of margins for the
victory. Oehmichen finished second ahead of fast qualifier Torey Nitzsche.
The Pure Stock contest turned into a duel between Eric Nelson and Scott Streigl for the
victory, with Nelson leading most of the event, winning by three car lengths over
Streigel. Current division point leader, and the evening's fast qualifier Brad
Guralski would finish third. Troy Engman and Christopher Rindfleisch made up the top five
finishers.
Next Friday evening weekly racing will continue with a show featuring Late Models,
Super Stocks, 4 Cylinder, Pure Stocks and a return of the 2-Man Cruisers. The evening will
also feature the next round of the Fire Department challenge as area firemen will wheel
equally prepared Saturn race cars in a special match race to lead off the evenings events.
Friday evening shows begin with qualifying at 6:30 p.m., and racing at 7:45 p.m.
