Too Wet at The Power Playground. Two Points Programs Remain!
By Jeffrey Sachse |
August 26, 2005;
Plover, WI - Steady afternoon showers for cancellation of the scheduled Friday Night
racing program at Golden Sands Speedway before any activities were able to take place at
the raceway. The cancellation of the program marked the third race which has
fallen to weather during the 2005 racing season.
Two weekly Friday Night point programs remain. Next Friday
evening, September 2nd, Super Late Models, Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders and 2-Man Cruisers
will take to the high-banked third mile oval. The weekly season finale will be held
on Fright Night September 9th, with Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks and 4
Cylinders in action.
Currently Mark Eswein heads up the Super Late Model point chase
by 33 points over Troy Nelson who in his first season back running full time in several
years has proven to be Eswein's closest competitor in the title chase throughout the
season. Chris Weinkauf of Merrill currently holds down third in the season standings
just one point behind Nelson.
Should Eswein secure the track title it will be his fourth
consecutive title, and sixth overall in the division. Only only a championship by
Burton Brown during the 2001 season broke Eswein's championship streak.
In the Super Stock division, Tim Plowman has a comfortable point
lead of nearly 100 markers heading into the final two events. Unless something would
prevent Plowman from appearing at the shows he will secure his second straight Super Stock
title.
The Pure Stocks will not compete on September 2nd, and their
final point program will be September 9th. With just one event to decide the title
Brad Guralski seems to have locked up his first championship effort as he has a 38 point
gap over nearest rival Michael Gwidt.
The 4 cylinders will have two events to decide their champion and
the points chase is extremely close. Dale Robinson has a slim 12 point advantage
over defending champion Mike Oehmichen. For both drivers every lap will be important
in deciding the 2005 4 Cylinder champion.
After the two weekly point events leading up to the championships
the track switches gears and will present a evening of thrills and spills.
The final event of the 2005 season will be the popular Eve of
Devastation, which will be held on Friday Night September 16th. That program
features a wide variety of novelty races and motorized mayhem. The night will also
feature the season championship events for the 2-Man Cruisers.
