Weinfurter Races to
Super Late Checkered, Raykowski Takes Career First Golden Sands
Super Stock Feature Flag!

Plover, WI -Fans
and representatives of McCain Foods who were in attendance on Friday
evening at Golden Sands Speedway were treated to an action packed racing
program on the high-banked third mile oval. Veteran Super Late
Model competitor Jeff Weinfurter would make a late race pass of Mark Van
to collect his second feature flag of the 2006 season. In the
Super Stock division Matt Raykowski would motor away from the field to
earn his first career feature flag at Golden Sands. The
Mid-American Stock Car Series was also in attendance, presenting their
first program at the raceway since the 1999 season. James Swan
would pass Jeff Tisler following a caution flag late in their main event
to steal the victory.

Jeff
Weinfurter (#3) won his second Super Late Model feature of the 2006
season at Golden Sands Speedway.
Mark
Van (#66) and Jeff Weinfurter (#3) battled hard for the lead during
the opening laps of the Super Late Model feature contest.
Spinning to avoid a melee ahead of him Jim Duchow (#66) wound up on
the sand berm on the backstretch during the Super Late Model main
event.
Eugene Gregorich Jr. (#1) topped the Super Late Model semi-feature
this evening.
Current point leader Kenny Richards (#9) turned in another fast
qualifying effort in the Super Late Models.
Matt Raykowski (#6) earned his first career Super
Stock feature win at Golden Sands Speedway.
The Super Stocks did a little three wide racing, here
Scott Hamel (#78), Steve Severson (#5) and Brian Back (outside)
battle for position.
Former 4 cylinder competitor Adam Krzykowski (#16) was the evening's
winner in the Super Stock semi-feature race.
Tim Plowman (#80) added to his list of fast qualifying efforts this
season in Super Stock action.
James Swan (#97) the current Mid-American Stock Car
Series point leader took top honors in the series first appearce at
Golden Sands Speedway since the 1999 racing season.

The Super Late Model
feature event would see Mark Van and
Jeff Weinfurter square off at the drop
of the green flag. Unfortunately
not a single lap was in the books when
the pack scattered down the backstretch.
Title contenders Kenny Richards and Mark
Eswein both sustained sheet metal damage
to their rides and headed for the pits,
while Jim Duchow would end up atop the
sands pile on the backstretch. All
were able to resume the event on the
restart though several cars were lacking
sheet metal.
With the green flag
returning it would be Van who would gain
the upper hand on Weinfurter as the pair
fell into line to pull away from the
duel between Tim Hintz and Keith
Bohmsach for the third position.
Van's pace allowed him to move out to a
three car length advantage on Weinfurter
by lap ten, while Hintz and Bohmsach
continued to run wheel to wheel around
the track for the third position.
Bohmsach, hugging the low line would
eventually secure the spot with Hintz
still running the high side in the
fourth spot.
The positions remained
the same among the leaders to the
halfway point when Van's car began to
slow slightly, beginning to make a
popping noise. Weinfurter was able
to close in and began to challenge for
the lead position. Moments later
Weinfurter found room under Van heading
into turn one on lap 24 to grab the lead
position.
Van was able to keep
pace with Weinfurter for the next
several laps but as his mechanical
condition worsened Weinfurter began to
pull away leaving Van to fight with
Bohmsach for the second spot.
Bohmsach would press
past Van for second on lap 28 and set
out after Weinfurter. Bohmsach
appeared to have the fastest car among
the leaders as was able to reel in
Weinfurter, but Weinfurter was not about
to make a mistake which would give
Bohmsach an easy passing attempt.
The rapid pace of the event would be
slowed with two laps to go when Elliott
Weiler spun in turn four.
On the restart for the
green white checkered finish, Weinfurter
got a good jump on Bohmsach and would
cruise to the finish line with a car
length advantage. Van's machine
now misfiring loudly was able to hold
together to reach the stripe in the
third spot just ahead of Brandon Selle.
Selle and Hintz would complete the top
five runners in the event.
Dan Braun and Mat
Raykowski would square off at the drop
of the green flag in the Super Stock
feature contest. However before
the opening lap was complete Brian
Schmutzer and Roger Stanczyk became
tangled on the backstretch. Bothe
drivers were forced to retire form the
contest with heavy damage to their
machines.
On the restart things
went much smoother with Raykowski
immediately jumping into the lead using
the high line to his advantage.
Braun would hug the low groove but
didn't have the momentum to keep pace,
giving second to Steve Severson on lap
two. Scott Hamel would work into
the third position moments later as
Braun fell back in the field.
On lap ten a multi car
tangle ensued collecting Galen
Manternach, fast qualifier Tim Plowman
and Brian Weinfurter. With the
green flag returning Raykowski went back
to setting a switch pace, pulling away
from those behind him giving chase.
Current division point
leader Brian Back was the man on the
move when racing resumed jumping to the
high line and passing several cars to
place himself into the fourth slow
behind Raykowski, Severson and Hamel.
With eight laps to go
both Back and Hamel made passing
attempts on Severson for the runner-up
spot. Hamel opted for the low
line, while Back continued in his high
groove. The trio were momentarily
three wide with eight laps to go
doing battle for the runner-up spot.
Hamel would successfully pull of the
pass, while Back had to slow to avoid
running off the racing surface.
This place Hamel firmly in second.
The battle also allowed
Raykowski even more breathing room ad he
extended his lead to a dozen car lengths
before Hamel secured the runner-up spot.
Over the final laps Raykowski drove a
flawless race to maintain his margin on
the field and took his first career
feature win at the track in convincing
fashion. Hamel would settle for
the second spot. Josh Oleson
quietly worked his way into third in the
closing laps followed by Wes Coon.
Coon's fourth place finish would pace
him atop the season standings for the
first time this season. Randy
Storlie would complete the top five
runners at the checkered.
The Mid-American Stock
Car series presented a field of sharp
looking racing equipment for their 40
lap main event, with Jeff Tisler, a
regular at the 141 Speedway taking the
opening lead in the contest. Scott
Ascher would give chase in the second
spot, though Tisler's pace allowed him
to slowly pull away from the field.
Deeper in the pack, veteran Central
Wisconsin racer Lyle Nowak and series
front runner James Swan were quickly
moving through the pack.
Tisler had extended his
lead to a dozen car lengths by the time
Nowak made his way into the second
position on lap 18. With each
passing lap Nowak closed in on Tisler
and the pair were about to duel for the
lead position when Ryan Finley spun in
turn two with 11 laps to go in the
contest and was clipped by Andrew Kulka.
Finley would continue in the contest
with much of his rear sheet metal
missing, while Kulka would retire from
the contest.
The anticipated showdown
between Tisler and Nowak would never
transpire however as when the race
resumed Nowak suffered a flat tire
quickly falling into the field and then
heading for the pit area as the yellow
flag returned.
When racing began again
Tisler was back out front with Ascher
and Swan giving chase. Swan worked
the high line to grab second as the
event wound down. A final caution
would fly with six laps to go in the
event as Finley looped his ride in turn
four. With a sprint to the
checkered setup due to the late caution,
Swan was quick to challenge Tisler for
the top spot. Darting to Tisler's
inside in turn one at the drop of the
green contest Swan would steal the lead
which he would hold to the finish.
Tisler would settle for second after
pacing much of the contest. Ascher would
manage to fend off the challenges of
multi-time series title holder Bill
Prietzel to finish third. Prietzel
would nail down the fourth spot followed
by fast qualifier Kenny Joosten.
The season continues to
wind down with four point shows left on
the 2006 schedule. Next week is
Werner Electric Night at the races with
Super Late Model, Super Stock and Pure
Stock in action, joined by the ever
popular 2-Man Cruiser class.
Gates open at 4:30 pm, time trials at
6:30 pm and racing starting at 7:45 pm
sharp!
