Weinkauf Steals Victory
From Duchow In Super Late Model Action,
Storlie Best In Super Stock Contest!

Super Late Model racing veteran Jim Duchow seemed destined to win his
first career feature checkered at Golden Sands Speedway after wheeling
past local hotshoe Chris Weinkauf early in the contest on Werner
Electric Night at the races. However a late race caution would
bunch the field for a eight lap shoot-out. On the restart Weinkauf
was able to wedge under Duchow heading into turn one to take the lead
and steal the victory. His fourth of the 2006 season. In the
Super Stock division, it was Randy Storlie pacing the contest from green
to checkered to take the feature victory. In the Pure Stock class,
Andrew Hintz was able to repel repeated challenges by Troy Engman in the
closing laps to take the win. The evening concluded with 3
contests for the 2-Man Cruisers which were captured by the teams of
West and Spiritka, Dean and Dean, while the finale was taken by Kampert
and Kampert.

A late
race pass in the Super Late Model feature put Chris Weinkauf (#75)

A caution flag appeared late iun the Super Late Model feature when
Justin Switlick (#28) wnt off course on the front stretch.
Eugene Gregorich Jr. (#1) scored his second straight Super Late
Model semi-feature win.
Current point leader Kenny Richards (#9) made a debut of a new car
and promptly set fast time with the new machine.
Track promoter Craig Basseuner provides last minute instructions to
a field of Saturn Guest cars. Various companies and groups
comete in the Saturn races throughout the season.
Randy Storlie made victory lane his home after
winning the Super Stock feature contest.
During the opening stages Randy Storlie (#53) kept
rookie Adam Krzykowski (#16) at his side in Super Stock feature
action.
Defending Super Stock champion Tim Plowman (#80) added another fast
time to his records.
Andrew Hintz (#7) poses in victory lane after a hotly contested Pure

The Super Late Model
feature set for a distance of 40 laps on
the high banked third-mile oval, would
see Weinkauf and Duchow square off at
the drop of the green flag.
Weinkauf hugging the low line would take
the initial lead, while Duchow filtered
into second ahead of Pat Williams who
followed in third.
Duchow would find room
under Weinkauf as the pair entered turn
one on the fourth trip around the oval.
After a brief battle Duchow became the
new leader of the contest, while
Weinkauf was forced to contend with
Williams who was seeking a way into the
second spot. Though Williams looks low
on several occasions Weinkauf was able
to maintain the second position.
The halfway point was
reached in rapid fashion with Duchow
leading the way. He would stretch
out his lead to four car lengths over
Weinkauf, who put a similar margin of
Williams as the trio blazed around the
raceway.
Further back in the
field, title contenders Kenny Richards
and Mark Eswein were slowly moving
forward, as was Blake Horstman who ran
in the fourth position.
With the leaders settled
in it appeared Duchow would be on his
way to victory. However Justin
Switlick would slide off the track on
the front stretch and stop near the wall
on lap 32 of the 40 lap event.
This forced a caution and bunched the
field for a sprint to the checkered.
As the green returned Weinkauf found a
way to work past Duchow and take the
lead, which he would hold to the
checkered. Duchow would hold onto
the second spot until the waning laps
when Horstman would motor by on the
outside to take the second position.
Duchow would settle for third ahead of
Richards and Williams in the top five
positions.
The Super Stocks were
ready to present their show with Randy
Storlie sitting on the pole next to
division rookie Adam Krzykowski.
At the drop of the green flag it was
Storlie who made his way to the lead,
while Krzykowski found himself stuck in
the high groove and slipping back in the
field.
By the tile five laps
were in the books Krzykowski faded from
the top five as Storlie, Scott Hamel,
Mike Brooks, Dave Neitzke and Wes Coon
occupied the lead positions. The
race past quickly as Storlie's speed
kept him comfortably ahead of Hamel and
Brooks.
The only slowdown of the
contest would appear at the halfway
point when Brian Back looped his ride in
turn three.
Underway again the lead
trio of Storlie, Hamel and Brooks pulled
away from those behind them. With
ten laps to go the fourth position
battle became the focus of attention as
Neitzke, fast qualifier Tim Plowman and
title contender Coon, all jockeyed for
position. Plowman would opt for
the high line and slowly, but surely
inched forward, securing the fourth spot
with a handful of laps to go in the
contest.
The distance to the
checkered quickly passed and Storlie
would reach the line first, taking the
win by two car lengths over Hamel.
Brooks, Plowman and Hamel would comprise
the top five. Coon would
settle for sixth, but due to Back's
misfortune and a finish deep in the
field, Coon would become the new point
leader with three point nights to go in
the 2006 season.
In Pure Stock action
Gary Haarklau would pace the first two
circuits of the contest until he wiggled
coming off turn four which would turn
over the lead to Andrew Hintz.
Haarklau would shadow Hintz from the
second position. A spin by Justin
Leginza on lap five would bring out the
caution and regroup the field.
With the green flag returning Hintz
would roll back to the lead, while
second became a hotly contested
position. It would be Troy Engman
who would wind up with the spot by the
time five laps were left in the event.
Engman however faced a full straightaway
gap which Hintz had built.
The massive lead was
erased as a pair of cars spun on the
backstretch with three laps to go in the
event. This left Hintz in the lead
with Engman and Gwidt on his rear
bumper. The green flag would
unfurl and Hintz found himself having to
defend both the high and low grooves.
As the final lap setup Hintz got a
reprieve as Gwidt came up to challenge
Engman for the second spot. This
allowed Hintz some breathing room and he
reached the checkered first by a car
length. Engman would edge out
Gwidt for the second spot. Gwidt,
division point leader Dean Zakrezwski
and fast qualifier Ronald Grabarski
comprised the top five finishers.
The season continues to
wind down with three point shows left on
the 2006 schedule. Next week is
Fan Appreciation Night with
Super Late Model, Super Stock and 4
Cylinders in action, joined by the ever
popular 2-Man Cruiser class.
Gates open at 4:30 pm, time trials at
6:30 pm and racing starting at 7:45 pm
sharp!
