Wimmer's lightning fast takes Golden Sands main!
By Amy Kolo

May 26, 2000; Plover, WI -  Threatening weather did not deter the crowd at Golden Sands Speedway, for the 1st Annual Cox Auto/Roadmaster Trailer Night at the races. Congratulations to the Short Trax Fan of the Week and the Wal-Mart gift certificate winner.

Jeremy Lepak once again screamed out fast time. Lepak is getting faster and faster as the season progresses, knocking out fast runners and veteran drivers.

At the start of the Late Model feature, Joe Krzykowski took the lead with MG Gajewski hot on his heals. Chris Wimmer started moving up fast looking to take a spot from the leaders. Second fast in time Jason Weinkauf was behind Wimmer looking to pass. By lap ten Wimmer had made his way around Gajewski, working on Krzykowski. The two fast runners battled it hard. With just seven laps to go lapped traffic started to come into play. Mark Eswein also started moving up the pack to join the leaders. As the cars started moving around the lapped traffic Wimmer was able to make his way around Krzykowski for the lead. Wimmer sped ahead passing cars at the rear of the field creating even more lapped traffic for everyone behind him. As the checkered flag fell Wimmer took the win with Krzykowski in second and Gajewski in third.

Jason Kirsling took the fast time slot in the Super Stocks and opted to take the Letter Perfect Challenge, which was up to $200.00.

Scott Hamel took the lead with Shawn Stelzer right behind him. Stelzer had been having car troubles and was looking for a win. Fast runners, Keith Bohmsach, Randy Storlie, and Jim Cormack started moving up the pack. Kirsling started fighting against the slower cars in the rear, trying to get to the top to take the challenge home. Hamel drove hard. By the middle of the race Storlie was able to get around Hamel for the lead.

Something happened to Hamel and he started losing positions rapidly. Cormack and Kirsling were right behind Storlie. With five laps to go, Kirsling got around Cormack, and started working on Storlie for the lead. Storlie held on tight. Everyone was at the edge of his or her seats. Was Kirsling going to get around Storlie and take the challenge money home! With some very intense emotions the checkered flag fell giving the win to Storlie. Kirsling finished second. An excellent job for starting in the back of the pack. Cormack finished third.

Marv Flick took the fast time in the Pure Stock division and opted to take the Carquest Challenge, which was up to $250.00.

With a yellow right off the bat in the start of the feature, Mike Somers slammed his way up to the front, with John Matthews, Brad Scholze and fast timer Marv Flick right behind him. Lapped traffic came into play right away, as the top runners maneuvered their way around them. Somers kept his lead with Scholze right behind him. Flick was able to get around Matthews for the third position. With all the lapped traffic between all the front-runners, cars were not able to advance easily. Somers took the win with Scholze in second and Flick in third. A good run for Flick from starting at the back of the pack.

The crowd’s favorite, the cruisers joined the field once again for an awesome show. Cars were turned side ways and spinning out in every lap. It’s amazing how two people can communicate so well to miss the cars that have spun out in front of them. Congratulations to the top three winners. First place Justin Blenker and Josh Kampert. Second place. Rick Cisewski and Jack Szymkowiak. Third place Rod Feltz and Ron Rochinski.
