By Jeffrey Sachse

June 21, 2002; Plover, WI - After eight consecutive nights of Friday Night racing at Golden Sands Speedway, track officials were forced to postpone the 8th Annual Copp's Ford Stores Mid-Season championship races.

So far this season three events have fallen due to weather conditions.  The opening two shows of the 2002 season were canceled due to snowfall which postponed the scheduled Wisconsin Challenge Series race until mid-May.

Due to the number of canceled events, the track is looking to extend the season one week, concluding the 2002 point season in Friday evening, September 6th.

The third-mile high banked asphalt oval will continue next Friday evening with the 7th Annual Union Night.  The event will feature Super Late Models and Super Stocks.   They will be joined by the 4 Cylinders as the guest class for the program.  In addition to a full evening of racing, a fireworks display is set to take place at the conclusion of the program. Time trials are set for 6:30 p.m., with the first green flag of the evening scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

Golden Sands Speedway known as Central Wisconsin's Power Playground is located between Wisconsin Rapids and Plover, Wisconsin on Highway 54.  For additional information please call (715) 423-4660 or consult the track website at www.goldensandsspeedway.com
