June 6, 2003; Plover, WI - For the first time since the Basseuner family purchased Golden Sands Speedway some nine years ago, the track suffered back to back rainouts of a scheduled weekly racing program.
Late Afternoon rainstorms just prior to the opening of the pit area brought soaking rains to the high-banked third-mile paved oval, rendering it impossible to begin the race program. On tap for the evening was the first round one of the now twice delayed Big Gold Challenge.
As a result, racing will take place twice next week at Golden Sands Speedway as the track will host a special Sunday afternoon show in addition to it's usual Friday Night program.
The Big Gold program will now be held that special Sunday Afternoon show, on June 15th. Fans have an opportunity to be paired with drivers in the Super Late Model main event. Should any of those drivers win the race, a lucky fan will win $1,000.
The feature contest for the Super Late Model class will run at 50 laps next week. Also on the card are the popular Super Stocks. Bus Races and 4 Cylinders are also scheduled for the program. It will also be WAL-MART kids' night at the races, with plenty of special prizes and giveaways for children. Pit Gates will open at: 10:30am, time trials will take place at 12:30pm and racing will begin at 2:00 p.m.
The weekly Friday racing program in June 13th will feature Super Late Models and Super Stocks. 2-Man Cruisers will also be on tap, and the 4 Cylinder class will also be added to the show. This program will also feature the next Fire Department challenge race in identically prepared Saturn cars. Time Trials take place for weekly events at 6:30p.m. and racing gets underway at 7:45 p.m.
