Double Washout Sets Up Double Header Memorial Weekend!
By Jeffrey Sachse

May 23, 2004; Plover, WI - With an amazing amount of rain falling on the high-banked third mile oval on during the entire weekend officials at Golden Sands Speedway were forced not only to cancel their scheduled Friday Night racing program, but the ample amounts of rain, which flooded the infield, also took out the scheduled raindate on Sunday afternoon.

While the loss of this past weekends show after two tries, is a disappointment to area race fans, the Golden Sands Speedway is gearing up for a major weekend ahead with two complete race programs during the Memorial Day weekend.

Leading off will be the WAL-MART Kid’s Night program with a show dedicated to the younger crowd, on Friday Night May 28th.  Expect plenty of giveaways to the younger fans along with special entertainment geared toward the younger crowd throughout the evenings show.  While the children will enjoy the extra festivities, on the track, fans will enjoy plenty of high powered racing action as 4 divisions take to the racing surface including Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks and 4 cylinders.   During the course of the evening fans will also witness the Faster Pastor race, where area church leaders will climb behind the wheel of equally prepared racing machines to test each others skills in a special race event.

The highlight of the evening will be the Super Late Model feature race, as the drivers will battle not only for prize money, but the winner of the feature contest will be guaranteed a starting spot in the special Wisconsin Challenge Series race to be held at the track on Memorial Day.  Should the winner of the race on Friday evening, not qualify for the show on Sunday, they will automatically start the big race in the 24th starting spot.

The festivities start with Time Trials at 6:40 pm., and racing at 7:45 p.m. for Friday Nights show.

On Monday Afternoon May 31st, the Wisconsin Challenge Series roars back into action at Golden Sands Speedway.  The series, which brings top drivers from a several state area, will see a 100 lap feature contest take place with up to 24 cars. Last year's show witnessed a large turnout of both spectators and participants, with local hotshoe Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids taking the checkered flag in the 100 lap contest.

Pit Gates will open for the show at 10:00 a.m., while qualifying for the program will commence at 12:30 p.m. The first race of the day will get the green flag at 2:00 p.m.

In addition to the big 100 lap contest for the WCS Super Late Models, fans will enjoy the twin 30 lap qualifying races, which are two hard fought contests which set the balance of the starting field for the final 100 lap contest.

Running as a support division for this show will be the Wisconsin Sport Trucks, the popular mini truck bodied racers are powered by snowmobile engines and a large turnout will race three and four wide around the high banked oval.  The show will also feature the unpredictable 2-Man Cruisers and the day will conclude with some wild Bus Racing action.

The school busses always prove to be a fan favorite and witnessing these busses racing at high speeds, three wide is a sight to behold.

Admission for this spectacular show is a mere $12.  One of the best values in special events to be held this summer.
