Golden Sands Speedway is pleased to announce its 2010 race schedule along with a preview of some of its up and coming promotional events.
Golden Sands will be opening starting with May Mayhem, featuring some of our famous Eve of Destruction style events, such as Forward Backwards Racing, the 5th Turn Race, Spectator Races, Cruisers, and Figure 8 Races. Top three in each event will be paid. $200 to win/$25 to start in the Figure 8’s. May Mayhem will also feature the World Record Attempt for the Fastest Lap around the Third Mile! The current record is set at 11.679! Any four wheel truck or auto is acceptable. Please call the office to sign up for events and details on the World Record Attempt.
An Organized Practice/Meet the Driver’s Social will be held May 14th. Bring a food or monetary donation for the South Wood County Humane Society and receive your grandstand admission for free! Practice will start at 4pm, a social to meet the drivers will be held in the Coca-Cola Pavilion from 7pm-8pm. Practice will then continue from 8pm-9pm.
Sign-ups have begun for Mini-Van Mama’s! That’s right you heard it – Mini-Van Mamas! Ladies come on out with your mini-vans and see who is the fastest Mama! The race will be held on May 28th. It’s a one on one race, double eliminations. Held similar to our spectator races. Requirements: Must be a lady driver and of course have a mini-van or regular van (no van trucks). Seatbelts must be in working order, Snell approved helmet, long sleeves, and pants, no shorts, or sandals. All mini-vans must be safe for the road or better. Call or email the speedway office to sign up.
Kids, ever dream of broadcasting? Think you can do better than the sports announcers on TV? Sign up to be a Junior Announcer! Starting on May 28th Kids 12 yrs and under can sign up to be the Junior Announcer for the June 18th race. Come help Mike up in the tower announce the drivers during the races!
Like to sing? Sign up to sing the National Anthem at the race track! Serious inquiries only! The National Anthem is serious business and we are looking for candidates that would be proud to sign the National Anthem every race. We would like to a have the National Anthem be sung live each night. Depending on how many candidates we get, we could have a new singer every night! Sign up now by calling or emailing the track office.
DukeFest 2010 is back. If you have a replica General Lee or any other replica’s of the famous cars from the Dukes of Hazzard, bring them out to the race track for a show and shine before the races. Each car will then get to take a lap during our National Anthem. Daisy Duke Look-Alike contest and other fun prizes!
