Golden Sands Speedway welcomed a nice crowd Friday night for the four classes racing under skies that darkened as the evening hours came. The Late Models started things off with qualifying events going smoothly. Chris Weinkauf posted the fastest time for the second week in a row, and Pure Stock racer Jake Capek put his #81 on the top of the pylon as well. Kevin Burris and Phil Malouf were the four cylinder top timers, and racing started right on time with the Late Models. Heat racing went almost error-free, with only one caution in the 10 races! The B Main put Mike Olson of Dorchester and Dale's Chad Devine in the Feature, and the Pure Stock B Main was their final race, making the finish moot. A quick lineup of the Feature for the Late Models put Jeff Weinfurter alongside Mark Van up front, and Weinfurter darted to the lead. Mark Van maintained a top 5 run for a while, as Frank Nitzke chased Weinfurter around the third-mile. Jim Sauter Jr., Brandon Selle and Chris Weinkauf picked up some spots to fall in behind Weinfurter as Travis Sauter blew through the field from the back with newer tires. He was running 8th behind Jeremy Lepak when the rains came. Track workers were pulling the disabled car of Dave Neitzke from the front stretch fencing when a steady rain began to fall that ended the night's competition. The 19 laps completed of the 40 lap event were deemed a completed feature. Hopefully dry weather will prevail for next week's Union Night with Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders, Pure Stocks, Vintage Racers and fireworks.
