Fans light up the stands at Golden Sands Speedway
Action started off with Super Stocks where Matt Raykowski in the 6 took fast time in qualifying. After the heat race Marv Flick (90) earned the win over Ben Capek in the eighty one. In the feature Phil Malouf (32) was strong but after a caution, Brian Back (36) battled him for the lead. Back would become victorious with Malouf second, Jeff Nowak (79) coming in third, Brad Scholze (87) took fourth and Ben Capek (81) earns fifth rounding out the top five. Back is currently in the points lead with 271, Malouf 250, Nowak 248, Capek 213 and Brian Weinfurter 209 all top five in standings.
Late Models took to the track with Paige Decker in the 03 taking fast time. Three heat races were run with Chad Devine (54) , M.G. Gajewski (7-11) and Jim Sauter Jr, (51) taking wins in their respective heats. In the semi feature, Devine and Troy Nelson (66) finished 1st and 2nd and advanced to the main event. Jim Sauter Jr. took the win in the feature over Mike Egan (44), Eugene Gregorich Jr. (14) third, Frank Nitzke (18) fourth and Nelson, running his first race of the year, rounded out the top five. Sauter Jr. also leads in the points standings with 265, followed by Gregorich Jr. with 259, Nitzke 241, Egan 226 and Hintz with 196 for the top five.
In the Pure Stocks Mark Kalata (75x) took fast time in qualifying again. After two heats the 17 of Kevin Berg and 38 of Dean Ashbacher both took the wins in their respective heats. In the feature it was a competitive race with cars almost constantly running three wide. Richard Dunn (20) would become victorious over Travis Volm (76), Brent Weiland (29) third, Jeff Mcintee (15) fourth and Mark Kalata (75x) round out the top five. Kalata leads in points with 255 followed by Weiland with 249, Volm 224, Karl Genett 213 and Mcintee 212 in the top five.
Four Cylinders took to the track with Kelly Sankey (88) taking fast time in qualifying once again, continuing his dominance. Two heats were raced with Michael Wegner (20) and John Engerbretson, driving the 14 car tonight, taking wins. After the checkered flag flew, Sankey took the win over Jermey Kemnetz (5), Lucas Betro (1) third, Michael Wegner fourth and Cheri Kurth (7) rounded out the top five. Sankey currently leads in points as well followed by Kemnetz with 303, Nikki Coulthurst 265, Betro 262 and Kurth with 245.
In the Cruisers Wheelock and Kalata (73) took the win over Lepinski and Bowen (32) with Garlow and Lockhart (3) coming in third. Kalata/Wheelock also hold the points lead with 97 over Lepinksi/Bowen with 89 and Helbach/Helbach with 83 in the top three.
Racing action was finished off with Specialty Fireworks providing a spectacular display of fireworks over the speedway as this night was the rain date for June 28th.
